You Must Go Inward

Own Your Story or Live Outside of It Struggling for Your Worth

I know I’ve mentioned this phrase before, but I’d like to break it down further so its true meaning isn’t lost.

In her article In You Must Go, Brené Brown explains the importance of looking inward, diving into our subconscious, and facing our shadows. She says: “Either you enter your story and own your truth, or you live outside of your story fighting for your worth.”

Entering our story means confronting our past—our joys, pains, victories, and failures—and accepting everything that has shaped us until now. This process helps us recognize our authenticity and embrace our truth without changing ourselves to meet others' expectations.

It’s crucial to face our story because it allows us to connect with our deepest essence, understand our motivations and behaviors, and cultivate greater self-acceptance and self-worth. By owning our truth, we free ourselves from seeking external validation and comparing ourselves to others, allowing us to live more fully.

Brené references a scene from Star Wars in which Yoda tells Luke that he must find inner calm and peace to prevent the dark side from consuming him. To achieve this, Luke must enter the cave and confront himself.

When we enter our story and own our truth, we lay a solid foundation for personal growth and emotional well-being. We become the narrators of our own story, rather than passive observers or actors playing a role that doesn’t belong to us.

This week’s powerful full moon in Scorpio provides a perfect opportunity to enter that cave.

Here’s the full article by Brené Brown for you to read.
