My Personal Struggle with Self-Worth
I’ve had my fair share of experiences with self-destruction and lack of self-worth, but the most powerful lesson came from staying in toxic relationships. These relationships led to painful self-devaluation, as I allowed mistreatment because I didn’t value myself.
Key Insight:
When you don't feel valuable, you tend to seek validation from others, often allowing things that hurt your soul in hopes of gaining their love.
Avoiding the Pain and Falling into Self-Destruction
After a painful breakup, I turned to partying, drinking, and smoking to numb the ache in my heart. While these actions may seem like a temporary fix, they only deepened my suffering.
Key Insight:
Avoiding pain leads to further destruction. Healing comes from facing pain, not running from it.
When the Outcome Is Not What We Expect
After a week of non-stop partying, I found myself completely drained and unable to function. That was when I realized: I wasn’t healing—I was just prolonging the pain.
Key Insight:
Our attempts to avoid discomfort often lead to greater emptiness. True healing comes from recognizing the pain and choosing healthier ways to cope.
The Outside Reflects the Inside
For years, I blamed others for my problems. But the truth is, all my external struggles were rooted within me. When I finally realized this, I began my healing journey, learning to nurture my body, mind, and soul.
Key Insight:
External problems are often a reflection of internal struggles. Healing starts from within.
The Key Is to Go Inward: Embrace Your Self-Worth
Self-worth isn’t something you can find outside of yourself—it’s something you must recognize and embrace from within. By practicing self-reflection and making conscious choices, you can break free from self-destruction.
Key Insight:
Ask yourself: Does this action contribute to my self-worth? Will it make me feel better in the long term? Or is it just a temporary escape?
Reparenting: Nurturing Yourself into Wholeness
One of the most impactful practices I started was “reparenting”—becoming my own caretaker. What did I need from my parents that they couldn’t give me? It’s time to give that love and care to yourself.
How to Apply Reparenting:
Nurturing List: Make a list of rules and boundaries to improve your diet, sleep, and health. Reward yourself for accomplishing them.
Conscious Reflection: Set aside time to reflect on your thoughts and feelings. Journaling can help you externalize and examine your emotions.
Positive Communication: Be mindful of how you speak to yourself. Practice kindness and clarity.
Curiosity and Learning: Keep challenging your intellect and nurturing a curious mind.
Breathing and Meditation: Incorporate meditation and breathing exercises to connect with your inner self.
Self-Worth List: Write a list of 100 things you love about yourself. Ask friends and loved ones to share what they appreciate about you, too.
Message from the Universe: Embrace Your Self-Worth
The battle between self-worth and self-destruction often takes place in our minds. Becoming aware of our inner dialogue allows us to replace negative patterns with affirmations of self-worth and positivity. Remember, the universe is always in dialogue with us.
Key Insight:
Through conscious reflection and clarity of thought, you can embrace your self-worth and transcend self-destructive patterns.
